Worm casts / humus

Worms consume organic matter, some of the organic matter will be fully decomposed in the casts. The casts also contain a wide variety of beneficial microorganisms that continue the decomposition process, converting the organic matter into a more stable, humus-like substance. Worm castings are rich in humic acids and other humic substances that form when organic matter breaks down.
